Board Advisory

The SAATSEPA Executive Committee comprises dedicated professionals who provide strategic leadership and oversight to advance the interests of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel across South Africa. Each member brings specialized expertise to guide the Association’s mission of promoting professional excellence, safety standards, and the advancement of the ATSEP profession.

Our executive leadership works collaboratively through specialized subcommittees to ensure effective governance, strategic planning, and member advocacy at national and international levels.

Thomas Chauque

Thomas Chauque

Executive President

  • Convenes and chairs the meetings of the Executive Committee and the Annual General Meeting. Enforces compliance with the provisions of the Constitution of SAATSEPA and Terms of Refences for sub-committees.
  • Signs the minutes of meetings after confirmation.
  • Generally, exercises supervision over the affairs of SAATSEPA.
  • Represents the Association at the global/regional/external meetings or forums and remains the official spokesperson of the Association.
  • Prepares a comprehensive and high-level annual report on the activities of SAATSEPA. Such report shall represent all Association’s activities which took place during his/her tenure in office.
  • Chairs organising committee/s established to host public engagements, but not limited to seminars, webinars, conferences, or global/regional meetings.
  • Shall assume the role of acting Vice President Administration or delegate a member or Vice President in acting capacity or by assignment.
  • Delegates specialised external assignments /activities that could have ordinarily been fulfilled by his/her office.

Vice President Strategy

  • Shall assume the role of acting Executive President in the absence or incapacitation of the Executive President or by assignment of the President or the Executive Committee.
  • Chairs the Strategic subcommittee.
  • Shall be accountable to the Executive President for his/her work to the Executive Committee.
  • Develop high-level overarching strategies for SAATSEPA.
  • Provide a regular strategy implementation report to the Executive Committee and recommended actions on any aspect as necessary.
  • Provide an additional communication channel to personnel on strategy implementation matters.
  • Regular review of the current association objectives and develop the methodology on how they can be achieved and improved.
  • Organise lectures, meetings, seminars, and conferences in relation to the industry and consolidate contributing material to professional journals and literature.
  • Support and sponsor the passage of legislation and regulations which will increase and protect the safety of air navigation through improvement in working conditions of ATSEPs.

Vice President Operations

  • Shall assume the role of acting Vice President Strategy in the absence or incapacitation of the Vice Strategy or by assignment of the President or the Executive Committee.
  • Chairs the Operations subcommittee.
  • Represents the interests of the Association at the ICAO forums and relevant ICAO subcommittees.
  • Conduct research and provide regular updates on any ICAO developments impacting the functioning of the Association and its members.
  • Shall be accountable to the Executive President for his/her work to the Executive Committee.
  • Provides guidance to members in solving technical challenges and promotes the advancement of the profession.
  • Encourage continuous self-development of members through training and education.
  • Identify and share information relating to training and advancement of ATSEP profession.
  • Promote, develop, and maintain the entrepreneurial competence acumen, engineering management professionalism and communication skills of its members.

Lerato Morure

Vice President Recruitment and Marketing

  • Shall assume the role of acting Vice President Operations in the absence or incapacitation of the Vice Operations or by assignment of the President or the Executive Committee.
  • Chairs the Recruitment and Marketing subcommittee.
  • Ensures that the Association’s brand remains alive and visible.
  • Spearhead marketing strategies earmarked at increasing awareness about the Association’s activities and initiatives.
  • Establishes and maintain relationships with other stakeholders within the aviation fraternity.
  • Creates and maintains the presence of the Association on social media platforms, including, but not limited to, WhatsApp group, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc; wherein frequent updates are posted and continuous online engagement with stakeholders are maintained.
  • Represents the interests of the Association at the aviation exhibitions, including CANSO forums and relevant CANSO subcommittees.
  • Conducts research and provide constant updates on any developments within CANSO.
  • Shall be accountable to the Executive President for his/her work to the Executive Committee.
  • Responsible for the onboarding of new member/s of the Association.
  • Develops, reviews, and submits recruitment strategy for approval by the Executive Committee.
  • Promote and maintain relationships with organisations who employ members of the Association.
  • Participate in policy development and review within their respective subcommittee.
  • Participates in ATSEP training, licensing and safety forums and provide regular updates to the Executive Committee.

The Recruitment and Marketing subcommittee members:

Vice President Finance

  • Shall assume the role of acting Vice President Recruitment and Marketing in the absence or incapacitation of the Vice Recruitment and Marketing or by assignment of the President or the Executive Committee.
  • Shall assume the role of acting Vice President Administration in the absence or incapacitation of the Vice President Finance or by assignment of the President or the Executive Committee.
  • Chairs the Finance subcommittee.
  • Oversees the financials of the Association.
  • Manages the income streams of the Association, including, but not limited to: Membership fees, Gifts, Contributions from Sponsors and Donors, Any other financial sources permitted by law.
  • Ensures that financial documents are signed by the Executive President and authorised members of the Committee.
  • Ensures that the financial and material operations are carried out in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Shall always act in accordance with the rules of financial and material management in which the rules shall contain the way the books and accounts of the Association are kept within the accounting standards applicable to the Association Reports and make recommendations to the Executive Committee on any outstanding financial matter/s.
  • Shall take the lead in initiatives to raise funds or partake in fund raising events.
  • Shall be responsible for onboarding new member/s on the membership fees or any other financial contribution/s or allowances. Responsible for the payment of Association’s subscriptions, membership fees, donations etc.

The Finance subcommittee members:

Vice President Administration

  • Shall assume the role of acting Vice President Finance in the absence or incapacitation of the Vice President Finance or by assignment of the President or the Executive Committee.
  • Shall be responsible for the technical and administrative affairs of the Association including, but not limited to:
  • Drafts, reviews, and submits member registration forms for approval by the Executive Committee.
  • Drafts, reviews, and disseminates new member/s welcome letters.
  • Manages daily operations of the Association.
  • Oversees all the official correspondences of the Association.
  • Shall oversee the functioning of all established permanent or ad hoc subcommittees of the Association.
  • Shall be accountable to the Executive President for his/her work to the Executive Committee.
  • Accompanies the Executive President to represent the Association at the global/regional/external meetings or forums.
  • Assume the acting spokesperson role in the absence or incapacitation of the President or by assignment of the President or Executive Committee.
  • Lead, direct and influence policies in Air Traffic Safety Electronics and associated matters in the public, private and educational sectors.
  • Records and compiles proceedings of the Association’s scheduled meetings or Annual General Meetings (AGM) and produces minutes of such meeting/s within ten (10) working days post the sitting of the Executive Committee.
  • Compiles a consolidated meeting pack and circulate to members at least five (05) working days before the Executive Committee meeting sitting.
  • Shall keep and maintain the membership database.
